Who Is In The Driver's Seat?

Have you caught yourself being somewhat negative of late?

Have you been blaming other people for things that were within your control?

Is your ego getting involved and pulling you into the negative space?

Whilst our ego is part of us, it tries to protect us and keep us out of harm’s way.

We do need to keep a check on it and ensure it is working for us and not sabotaging our success.

Today, I share with you 5 ways your ego may be pulling you into megativity and how to change it:

😊 You're always striving for more - You are being diligent, accomplishing milestones along your path of success. However, you are consistently feeling like things are not going your way. This is a bright sign that your ego is controlling you. A quick remedy to this is to reflect and celebrate your wins, practice gratitude for what you have accomplished. Remember, the small things make a difference too, so make sure you notice them too.

😊 You have to be right - You love a good chat, and then during the conversation, you notice that you have to be right. It’s worth noting that an opinion is not right or wrong, for the opinion is based on the life experiences we have had to date. Breathe and be open to the opportunity this may bring, as we have all had different experiences, and somebody elses view point might just be what you need to hear and see the real value in the moment.

😊 You are feeling overwhelmed - Life is busy, what with the demands of family, friends and then your professional workspaces, there is not a lot of time left to just be - hence overwhelm. Overwhelm can immobilise you and create stress. It is when this is happening that you become stuck, and you begin to play the victim card and blame other people for what’s happening around you.

This ultimately means that you lose your power and give away your decision-making tools.

STOP right now and think only of the next one hour, identify 3 things you need to complete and only concentrate on them. The trick is to break things down into manageable-sized actions and move forward with intention, focus and purpose.

😊 You begin to take things personally - This happens when overwhelm is present. We begin to see things that are not there. If somebody does not agree with our opinion, we begin to question ourselves. Our internal story begins to get louder as if it knows more about you than you do.

Remember, it’s not all about you. We are all connected. Trust yourself and give yourself that chance to succeed. Slow down, breathe and practice gratitude for yourself and what you have accomplished thus far.

😊 Life is not fun anymore - All work and no play makes for a boring day. Your ego is keeping you busy and distracted so you don’t notice how far off your path you are. When you do notice, you beat yourself up for not being further advanced.

To effect change is relatively easy. Slow down, you may even stop for a moment and ask yourself, “What is it that brings me real joy?” It can be as simple as singing a song, writing a poem, or even carrying out an act of kindness. Focus on completing one or two of these daily.

It’s worth reminding you to fill your own tank first, so you can support others.

Creating happiness is not a destination or goal; it’s an action we take that brings us joy.

These tips are all signs that your ego is steering your ship, so keep an eye and ear out for them.

Our life journey is a gift and can change in the blink of an eye. I encourage you today to take a moment and check in with yourself and ensure you are being the best you possibly can be.
